Okay, no one here cares, but I wanted to watch this movie because Hugh Dancy is cute, so I read the book first, and it was actually funny. I almost rented a DVD of the movie, but Netflix said for awhile that it was going to be on Instant View, so I waited, and watched it when it was finally available yesterday. SO glad I didn't rent it. They changed everything, everything, except the ultra-British names, including the stereotypical rich ones, which are funny in the book, but make no sense in this context. I think the only thing in common with the book is that she shops a lot and gets in debt. The roommate's cousin becomes her fiance. What the hell, people. Ew. So yeah, it was pretty bad.
The roommate's cousin is named "Tarquin", which is the name of a student president of Wills Hall (my residence at Bristol) from before I went there. People already hated Wills for being full of rich kids, and when their president ~Tarquin~ made a response to the criticism, it became a joke. Someone had to explain the signifance of it to me.
Tarquin was also the name of the prince who raped Lucretia in ancient Roman lore. ... lol? Not sure what about that rich Brits are drawn to.

I forgot about the pashminas! There were two Henriettas in my hall, and one of them was described as one of the worst "rahs" there. She looked exactly like Uma Thurman.
The antagonism over Wills, especially from Hiatt Baker, was way overblown, mostly coming from the HB side. I did hear a few snears about them from Wills students, but they focused way more on us than we did on them. As usual. As much as I did not fit in there, and wished I had picked to live in Durdham instead, I'm afraid that I would've been one of those whiners, ranting about Wills residents like I knew anything about them. I don't know who was warden at the time that article was written, but when I was there, Donald literally accepted any applicant who came from another country, was not white, and maybe came from a state school (I don't remember). He was actively trying to move it away from a rich kid hall, but it was still mostly so, because all the applicants saw a prochure with information such as what percent last year went to private schools, and avoided it.
Jesus, the Berlusconi thing is disturbing.

In 2008 a Harrow educated undergraduate at Wills Hall crashed a £10,000 Mini in the grounds of the hall. The student Alexander Fiallos was banned from driving for a year following the incident.
loool
OMFG James Blunt went there?! PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THIS IS TRUE.

All of you better be tuning in to SNL in a half hour. Taylor Lautner's hosting, and he's probably going to be shirtless a quarter of the time.
I... think I'm going to go to the movie theater a lot over the next two weeks. I want to see EVERYTHING.
And I hate it when people half-assed sing along with a song. It doesn't even sound recognizable. Stop butchering it.

Seeing the films of the "Twilight" franchise a total of five times is nothing to be proud of. In fact, it's flat-out shameful.
I went to the Botanical Gardens with my sister and Ashley, and the Christmas set-up is sooo cool. I remember the railroad village from from looong ago, one of those "what/when/where the hell was THAT?" memories that pop up from childhood. And it all SMELLED great. Seriously. The smell. It was lovely.
New default icon?! It makes every comment from me seem potentially earnest and thoughtful, until soon proven otherwise.

If you're on any recreational drugs right now, you should especially watch this:
Youtube comment: Over and above the talent, let's credit EMI for promoting this talent. Can you see this happening now. X-Factor; Simon Cowell "so tell us a bit about yourself love"
"Well my name's Kate, I'm sixteen and I'm going to do a song about a girl that's been made pregnant by her own brother and this is her suicide note to him..." and then I'm going to do one about a tortous 19th century gothic novel written from the point of view of the long-dead heroine etc
( Read more... )
Blaaaaargh, I feel crappy. I need to return to the mall. It's like I forgot how to get people gifts. Nothing ever calls out to me as good or suiting for a person.
Ugh... I recommend this: http://www.gifts.com/finder As an old man, I got "the thinker", whose guilty pleasure is "a glass of sherry." I went, "SHERRY? SHERRY? SHERRY."
Last night I made Kate watch "Twilight" out of sadism, then it dawned on me... I have now seen that movie three times, and that is nothing to be proud of. She was forwarding through scenes and I cried, "No! You can't do that!" Then I realized those scenes were all crap, so it was okay.
